Summer - what was that????
So Summer has been a washout. I have tried to do Carew market but decided that it was too wet both times. I need to get going before its too late and summer is over...not that it ever started. However I did manage to get there and scope out the competition a couple of weeks ago and I also managed to buy a whole load of new books. I came back with two carrier bags of books not what I set out to do but I think I have a problem passing a book stall without buying.
I have also picked up some good books this last month from a few sources..thanks Mike, Claire and Teresa... but I need to stop buying for a while and sell a few more. I have launched the "if you need a book I will find it" service. it has been quiet successful I managed to find a whole series of books one and a book someone else had been looking for for a while were packeted within an hour or so. If you are lookign for a book email me and i will do my best. Looking for the books had lead me to discover a passion for the Darren Shan children's series about a half vampire. They are very good, easy reading and not too large so I am scooting through them quite quickly.
I have sold quite a few books on my Ebay Shop which was going well until they announced that they are putting the cost of the shop up from £6.00 to £14.00 a month. Far too much of an increase, it's unbelieveable. If they wanted to put it up a couple of pounds then no problem but to increase the cost by over 100% is too much. As I do not sell the books for more than a couple of quid each the 1st 7 books I sell would just pay for the shop not counting the fees for each book. So The shop is going to have to be shut down I will continue to sell on Ebay as it is a good money earner but I seriously do not understand how they can get away with increasing their charges by such a huge amount...I have emailed them to say as much but I doubt it will do any good! Sorry Ebay rant over.
So what is the book of the month this month?? Well after a lot of thought it has to be "A Load of Old Balls" by Jo Brand. This is a satirical look at the contribution the male species has made to the
civilized world. Selecting her top 50 men in history she has provided
brief, witty, sometimes affectionate, more often savage portraits everyone from Buddha to Sid Vicious from Hitler to Mr Kostakis, her local kebab shop owner. Her normal very dry sense of humour.
So what holds the next month. Waiting for an answer from Ebay and then shutting the ebay shop which will mean more work and monitoring on Ebay. My stuff from Vista Print has arrived so I now have 100 postcards with an offer of a 20% discount. At the moment they are going out with the Ebay books. I also have to do a bootfair soon because I have my SDW Books T Shirt and it would be a waste if I did not get to wear it not to mention I have picked up a big box of Mills and Boon type books that will only really sell at a bootfair unless any of you would like a few.
Last months Poll results. David Tennant won the "Who is the Best Dr" Poll with 70% of the vote and 30% going to Tom Baker. It was a tough question as I love Tom Baker as Dr Who and he will always be my favorite but David Tennant has to come in a very close 2nd. So this months Poll is to the right happy voting!!!
